Happy October ladies, as we start to settle into cooler weather, a full moon and all the changes of fall, let us take some time to be grateful for the season we are in. This goes for life changes, weather changes and the election season.
With so much going on in the world around us it is important to take a few minutes out of the day to be grateful for the present moment. Sometimes it can be difficult to give thanks for the difficult and dark moments that we are going through. Joy is in the small things.

This week has been a little difficult for me, returning home from 8 months away and settling back home, even though I was more than ready for my quiet space which I have affectionally called my fortress of solitude, being away and constantly surrounded by people has been physically and emotionally draining. However, on the flip side the silence can be a bit overwhelming. I am also in the middle of basement remodel, the only T.V. I have is in storage until it is complete. So, my space is a tad upside down.

It has been great time to be grateful for the small things that I love about my house and the silence. For example hearing the floors creek as the house heats and cools off, before this sound would scare me thinking there is someone walking around, now I just stop and I’m thankful to be able to have the silence to hear the creeks, and remember all the moments when I just wanted silence, to able to clearly hear my thoughts.

As the season has changed this is new personal season as well, in appreciation of the new season each day for a few minutes here are a few things to show some love to the amazing women we are, soaking up all the gratitude for our life journey.

  • Enjoy a cup of coffee or tea wrapped in a comfortable blanket.
  • Open a window and let some fresh air in
  • Bake fall themed cookies or bread * (bread making was my thing during my time away every Sunday)
  • Enjoy a warm cup of apple cider and donut
  • take a walk and admire the leaves and the phase they are in
  • Cozy up with a comfy blanket and a book
  • Take a drive along a scenic road and appreciate the view, buildings, trees, signs
  • Get grounded in nature, feel the grass and the breeze, and the sun
  • A DIY craft project, * I’m going to attempt to make a fall Wreath, I’ll keep you posted*
  • Make a nostalgic playlist * mine has Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, Christina Aguileria and Britney Spears
  • A cozy movie night in
  • Light a candle and feel its scent, journal the feelings it gives you.
  • Reflect on three things that made you smile
  • Most importantly forgive yourself, you are learning and growing each day.

If you are a plant mom, show your plants some love before the winter.

I am asking you to give yourself just a few minutes of love over the next 30 days. Have a wonderful October ladies.

I am a small home business Owner of Global Threads Quilting. Professionally I am in the U.S Coast Guard Reserve, full time I am a civilian for the Army, Logistics Specialist. Both jobs keep me on the go a lot and can be draining at times. In 2017 I got divorced right before an overseas deployment, I had no idea the toll this took on my mental health. I threw myself into work and being there to support shipmates, without taking the time I needed for myself. In a few short months I lost my voice and was forced to take the time I needed to recover. Which brought me to self-care and the importance of taking care of my mental, physical and emotional health. Being away from home and not having my usual outlet, of quilting was difficult, but I had to adjust and learn new ways to care for myself in the most stressful times, listening to my body, and giving it what it needed. I’m excited to share on the go self-care tips with you lovely ladies.
