Energy never dies, it is only transmuted from one form to another.
This means that any negative energy that we are harbouring has the potential to be transformed into something positive. The aim of this article is to inspire you to take control of your energy with the help of physical activity.
Now, I’m not saying that is a bad thing to be angry, frustrated or outright pissed off!  These are normal human emotions and responses to things that disrupt our energetic equilibrium.  However, we can adopt better ways to transmute these energies to bring about something positive, rather than stewing in that energy which will eventually attract more of those energies that we do not want in our lives.

We’ve all been there when we’re so agitated that you could punch a wall or smash something (some of us, including myself, have taken it that far, but now I know better and we have to give thanks for growth).
Now that I have grown out of having a tantrum, I’ve learned to use my anger to help me achieve my fitness goals and turn it into something positive.  Hopefully you may find some of these tips useful and can apply them to your own life when you’re mad at the world:

  1. Arguments - When someone has angered you in a situation like this, and you need to just storm off, why not go for a run, jog or power walk to calm your emotions?  Not only are you burning calories, but you’re also removing yourself from a negative situation and releasing endorphins to improve your mood.  It may even allow you to be in a better headspace to resolve the disagreement.

  1. Anger – Some people and situations can bring out the absolute worst in us, and in that moment, you may even want to physically hurt someone or have a physical outburst (I don’t advise this).  When you feel like this you could participate in some sort of combat exercise like boxing for example.  You don’t have to go to a class, it could just be a YouTube video.  Take your frustrations that you have against that person or situation and sculpt your body at the same time until you don’t feel those negative feelings anymore.

  1. Dance away your trouble - Does anyone ever feel bad when they’re dancing?  I don’t think I can hold onto negative energy when I put on my favourite good mood playlist and dance like nobody is watching.  Dance can be a form of movement meditation and we all know how good meditation is for the mind, body and spirit.  Dancing in this way will burn calories, release aggression, calm your rage, be creative and allow you to be present and enjoy the moment.

Next time you’re harbouring negative energy, use it to work towards your fitness goals and transmute these bad vibes into positive vibes.

Taja Watkins-Scott, BS

My name is Taja Watkins-Scott and professionally, I am a holistic bodywork therapist specializing in Swedish massage, sports massage and rehabilitation and acupuncture. I come from a sporting background both academically and physically and have participated in sport and fitness as far back as I can remember. In addition to bodywork, I also provide energy readings as a service. I would describe myself as a nurturer and spiritual being navigating the human experience of life and while on this journey, I am using my gifts to bring love, light and healing to as many people as I possibly can to raise the vibration of the world around us. I am a firm believer that our health should be considered holistically as every aspect of our lives; physically, spiritually and emotionally are all interconnected. I take this approach with my own life and treat my clients accordingly. Although I am a bodywork therapist, many of my clients have found a safe space in me to be vulnerable and let go of anxieties they may be holding on to. As someone who also lives with anxiety it warms my heart that others can find a safe haven in me to let go of theirs.
