We often invest so much time and effort to giving and sharing love with family and in our friendships that we forget to love ourselves in our love language.

I have read 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman several times in an attempt to save a relationship that ran its course. So, I decided to read it again this time to love me
Here is how to relate the 5 Love Languages to loving yourself.

Quality Time, this is spending time with yourself present in the moment, allowing yourself to time to feel something that makes your happy, some simple things to do include washing a meaningful movie that you enjoy. I recently ordered a self-care coloring book Exhale by Latoya Nicole.

Physical Touch as a self-love language includes adding motion to your body, this can be something you do every day like doing a few stretches, or work on your skin care routine, or a scheduled mani/ pedi or a massage, at home spa day.

Acts of Service the third love language, this is doing something that allows you to feel love while doing it this can be setting a small goal. Take yourself out on a date. Decluttering a closet and donating to a charity that is meaningful to you.

The fourth love language is receiving gifts; simple phrase comes to mind “Treat yo’ self” as you should invest in yourself is there something you have always wanted to do? Something that you enjoy? Do it, don’t feel guilty for doing something for yourself.  You are alive and that is reason enough to treat yourself.

The last love language this is the most important words of affirmation. Girl give yourself a compliment. You are gorgeous. You are magic. Keep a gratitude jar on days that a difficult pull out a gentle reminder to yourself. Listen to a podcast that you enjoy, a few of mine include Minding Your Purpose with Laqwanda, Self-Care IRL with Ty Alexander.

Give yourself the love you need when you need it. The thing about love is it changes, your needs in love change. Be present and enjoy the moments of loving yourself. Remember to always pour into your cup before others. It is not selfish its self-full to give the overflow, when your cup full and overflowing with love, that’s when you can pour into the cups of loved ones.

I am a small home business Owner of Global Threads Quilting. Professionally I am in the U.S Coast Guard Reserve, full time I am a civilian for the Army, Logistics Specialist. Both jobs keep me on the go a lot and can be draining at times. In 2017 I got divorced right before an overseas deployment, I had no idea the toll this took on my mental health. I threw myself into work and being there to support shipmates, without taking the time I needed for myself. In a few short months I lost my voice and was forced to take the time I needed to recover. Which brought me to self-care and the importance of taking care of my mental, physical and emotional health. Being away from home and not having my usual outlet, of quilting was difficult, but I had to adjust and learn new ways to care for myself in the most stressful times, listening to my body, and giving it what it needed. I’m excited to share on the go self-care tips with you lovely ladies.
