Mirralle J. Bennett, MHRMSelf-Care & Wellness Associate It’s important that we honor them, from Naomi Sims, -first Black Supermodel, Diahann Carroll, first Black woman with her own T.V series, Dr. Ruth J. Simmons the first Black president of and Ivy League institution Brown University, Venus and Serena Williams, the soulful voice of Billie Holiday, to Mo’ne Davis, who at 14 was the first girl in Little League History to throw a complete shutout in the 2014 world championship. Today we stand on the shoulders of greatness, this brings the theme of your rest being revolutionary. In order to move mountains and continue our Black Girl Magic, we need rest and self-care, and practice healthy coping skills when we face challenges. Give yourself permission to rest, during your rest period remember its ok to do nothing, have no plan, go with what feels good to you, fuel your soul, recharge. Catch up on your favorite shows, listen to a playlist that energizes you, burn a candle grove to the beat of your heart. Sometimes connecting with friends and family can help recharge you, if you are an extrovert, social settings or friends are what you need, have a community where you have mutual understanding and respect in those relationships that fuel you. A few techniques to try in a pinch when you are feeling stressed or overwhelmed: Deep breathing for a minute or two, the Box breathing method can help calm and give a minute to release. Grounding can be taking a minute to get some fresh air, stepping outside doing a quick stretch. As we continue to blaze the path for greatness let your rest be Revolutionary, for many generations to come, rest is needed. *the tools provided are not a substitution for professional care or treatment*
