One rule of thumb: make a real conscious effort to evaluate your daily, weekly and monthly expenses. Check your transaction history and look for ways where you can eliminate those unnecessary expenses. If you are a tech savvy person you can automatically track your expenses using a spending tool. Most financial institutions provide spending tools and resources to help you keep track of your everyday expenses. Ask your banker how you can get started. Financial wellness is one the of most rewarding and fulfilling experiences that a person can embrace. No one individual person is free from all worries of stress that life brings them. However, it’s never too late to work towards owning a piece of happiness and being secure with how you spend your money. I know what you may be thinking, where do I start? I’m glad you asked!!! It’s simple! Start small! Set a "no spend day" once a week and gradually increase to 2-3 days a week. Try to not spend ANY money on your selected day. I would suggest picking the middle of the week. Do not pick “Taco Tuesday” (LOL), unless it's absolutely necessary, for this one day. If you cannot live without your coffee, try making your own at home. Instead of those expensive coffee pods purchase a reusable coffee pod. Fill it with your favorite coffee and enjoy! And no online shopping! It’s tough, but I have faith in you 😊 Make a challenge for yourself. Get your family involved or even your co-workers. Who says saving money can’t be fun (wink)! Now I know you may have set back and might have to spend a little money. This is where your strength will be tested. Use cash instead of your debit card. Remember the goal is to spend less not more. Only take out what you need, not what you want. I guarantee you will spend less and enjoy doing it. These tips are just a few basic money skills that I have embraced, and they have helped me to manage my expenses. It didn’t happen overnight. It took a lot of self-discipline (and still does). Do yourself a favor and start a good habit. Keep in mind that what you do today can affect what you do tomorrow.
